as president obama pushed his plan for immigration reform in las vegas. coming just one day after the senate beat him to the punch, announcing its bipartisan proposal. president obama making remarks in las vegas. the president called for granting a path to citizenship for the estimated 11 million people in the united states, currently illegally. he praised the senate's efforts in announcing an immigration proposal yesterday. that plan had a key provision, requiring tighter border security before any illegal immigrants could get citizenship. that was key to republican support. it also calls for beefing up border security and punishments for businesses that hire illegal immigrants. republicans say they will not sign off on any immigration reform that doesn't put border security first. let's go to carl cameron in washington. how do you break this down? is there a big difference from what you heard from president obama, compared to the bipartisan commission of eight senators yesterday? we heard a lot more from the so-called gang of eight. they got more granular. what we heard from the president

president obama's speech in las vegas today calling for a sweeping change on immigration. they told him not to announce his own legislation. bipartisan talks on the issue have been that sensitive. "the washington post" says the president does have a plan and that it's more liberal than the bipartisan effort in the senate including a path to faster citizenship for illegal immigrants. yesterday a team of eight senators, four from each party, unveiled their first step toward immigration overhaul. conservatives aren't happy with it, rejecting it as a form of amnesty. as for why lawmakers are tackling the issue now -- >> elections. elections. the republican party is losing the support of our hispanic citizens, and we realize that there are many issues in which we think we are in agreement with our hispanic citizens, but this is a pre-eminent issue. >> house lawmakers are said to be work on a by par san plan of their own, but they're said to not be as far along as they are in the senate. >>> meanwhile brazilian police have made more arrests. two of the men arrested on monday are owners of the

some of his proposals in a news conference and in a speech in las vegas, so this really is an example of the bipartisan senate gang of eight, so-called, calling themselves. and lay down a marker and show that congress hasn't been ignoring this, and president has not dealing with it in his first term. it does have the path to citizenship. some critics say it amounts to amnesty. first, securing the border, whether that's a fence or a wall or uses technology instead, has always been a real point of contention, they would reduce the overstayed visa, a problem. 40% of the illegal immigrants are overstaying their visas and implement an employee verification system, e-verify, to make sure illegal aliens can't find work. if that happens there would be a guest worker program that would make it possible for immigrants to cross the border and come and take low paying jobs and institute and issue green cards to immigrants who come here with major degrees, technology degrees, post doctorate degrees and things of that nature. of the 11 million current illegal immigrants, for them to get rights to s
